The Best and Worst of Glossier
Revered beauty brand Glossier never disappoints - right? Since 2010, the brand has been somewhat of a holy grail for beauty enthusiasts and occasional makeup users alike. From cult classics like the Haloscope highlighter to new introductions like the Glossier Play line of bright eyeliners, Glossier products have been met with gushing reviews.
And for good reason. Personally, Glossier is one of my favorite beauty brands. However, not every product can live up to the shining standard of Haloscope. While I have loved some of the Glossier products I’ve tried, there are some that I’ve found less than desirable. Keep reading to see which picks from the brand I could live without, and more importantly, the ones that made me a fan in the first place.
CLOUD PAINT - HIT
Quite possibly my favorite makeup product of all time, Glossier’s Cloud Paint is a hit in my book. Creamy, easy to apply, long lasting - check, check, and check. Dusk is my personal favorite, as I find the deep peachy nude the most flattering on my skin, but the range of colors ensures that everyone can find their perfect match. Storm, a dark, pretty rose, is another shade that I love, particularly in the winter. Cloud Paint blushes hit that sweet spot of being easy to use while also providing an amazing payoff. If I could only use one Glossier product for the rest of my life, this is where I’d put my money.
STRETCH CONCEALER - MISS
I wanted to love this concealer. But it was just too good to be true; “A buildable concealer that covers everything from dark circles to blemishes and redness, with a dewy, glowy finish,” according to the Glossier website. That sounds like a pure dream. Spoiler alert: the Stretch Concealer did not reach dream-like status for me. I found that it provided barely any coverage at all, and was much too oily to last. It ended up sliding around and melting off my face after just a few hours of wear, managing to look patchy and oily at the same time. And talk about under eye creasing. Sorry Stretch Concealer - but you’re the definition of a miss.
HALOSCOPE - HIT
Do I even need to talk about Haloscope? It’s not much of a secret anymore - this is a great product. Dewy, natural, and even fairly long-wearing for such a lightweight product. It’s the perfect everyday highlighter and I’d recommend it to anyone.
PERFECTING SKIN TINT - MISS
Another product that I wish, wish, wish I loved, but missed the mark for me. I know the coverage is supposed to be light, but I perceived the coverage to be more… non-existent than “light”. Putting this on my skin appeared to have no effect whatsoever. Yes, natural, lightweight coverage is Glossier’s jam, but I’d like my coverage to have a little bit of… coverage. Sorry Perfecting Skin Tint, but I just think there are better alternatives to this product.
BOY BROW - HIT
Now, Boy Brow didn’t particularly blow me out of the water, but I have nothing bad to say about this product. It’s a good, solid everyday brow gel. It gets the job done, and the price isn’t too bad for how long it lasts. While I won’t be writing poetry about it, it’s a great basic product.
LIDSTAR - MISS
The prettiest little eyeshadow - I’m sad to add you to my list as a miss and not a hit. But Lidstar was a major disappointment for me. I found the applicator was difficult to use; it deposits product onto your eyelid in a sort of awkward way. I thought I could get around this by just gooping some product onto my eye and spreading it with my fingers, but when I do that, it automatically all comes off on finger and I’m left with barely any on the eyelid. When I do get some product to hang around, it creases within an hour. The only use I’ve gotten out of this is as an inner corner highlight, and even that seems to dissipate fairly quickly. Lidstar, I just don’t think you’re worth the hassle.
LIP GLOSS - HIT
Another solid, basic beauty product. I have it in Red, and it’s the most perfectly tinted, pretty lip gloss. 5/5. No complaints.
BALM DOT COM - HIT
Putting on this lip balm makes me feel insanely luxurious. It’s the lip balm I save for “special occasions”, which just means I put it away in a drawer instead of out on my nightstand so I’m not tempted to use it 100 times a day. I love all things rose scented, so the rose one is the perfect addition to my lip balm collection. Highly recommend.
